Each crystal forms around a particle of dust. All have a 6-fold symmetry, but no two have ever been found with exactly the same shape. Their variety and complexity is breathtaking.
Frozen Planet, 1.01
At 860 metres (2820 ft) Hornelen is the highest sea cliff in Europe. Legend has it that witches dance with the Devil at the top at Midsummer night (Sankthansafta) and at Christmas Eve.
You get a stunnigly beautiful view of Hornelen from my grandparents’ house, and more than any other mountain it has always had a special place in my heart. (And as a native to a land where less than 10% of the country’s area is arable, and the rest is mountainous, I’ve seen my share of mountains, thankyouverymuch.)
Hornelen is found in the municipality of Bremanger, in Sogn og Fjordane county. In the traditional district of Nordfjord. On the west coast of Norway. Yeah, I realise this is more info than strictly needed, but I can’t help it, it’s my favourite mountain, damnit! :P
